Preparation
Peel the ripe bananas and place them in a freezer for at least twelve hours.
Chop the frozen bananas into smaller pieces. If they're too hard to cut, let them thaw for few minutes. Place the chopped frozen bananas in a blender or a food processor. Blend until smooth. If needed—stop from time to time to move the content to the middle towards the blades of the mixer. You can add a few tablespoons of water to make it easier to blend.
When there are no pieces of frozen fruit left—the nice cream is ready to serve.
Nice cream is ice cream made from frozen bananas, but other fruits and nuts can be added. Nice cream is delicious, creamy, healthy, plant based, dairy-free, gluten-free, free from sugar additives, free from artificial flavouring and colouring. It's easy to make at home and doesn't require a special ice cream machine.
This recipe is for the basic 1-ingredient banana ice cream. Create different flavours by blending your frozen bananas with other fruit e.g. pineapple, strawberries or dates. Try adding raw nut butter [ 2. ] or raw plant based milk. Make chocolate nice cream by adding raw cacao powder [ 2. ] to the frozen bananas or create a chocolate glaze by mixing the raw cacao powder [ 2. ] with malted raw coconut oil [ 2. ] (if you don't want to use raw cacao powder you can replace it with raw carob powder). Experiment with spices (e.g. vanilla, cinnamon) or essential oils (e.g. mint).
I enjoy my nice cream with chopped fresh fruit.
I do not use any plastic foil or packaging for freezing bananas. I line the freezer shelf with organic cellulose paper (from an organic shop) and place ripe and peeled bananas on it.
Bananas will hold for few weeks in the freezer, but because they are raw [ 1. ] (not treated with high temperature, sugar or other chemicals), they contain enzymes, and will go bad eventually.
