We don't need any equipment for a healthy raw food diet. Humans are by nature well fitted to consume plant food.

However, if we want to make our own cold press juices, blend smoothies, sauces, nut milk, dry our own spices or prepare Gourmet dishes, then we may find the following kitchen appliances useful.

Blenders with less power and fewer RPM are not suitable for making green smoothies, where the purpose is to break the cellulose cell walls.

High speed quality devices allow for longer blending time (2–3 minutes) and therefore creating a warm soup.

Slow Juicer

Task: Cold extraction through slow squeezing of the juices

Suitable for: juicing fruit, vegetables, leafy greens

Look for:

In contrary to high speed blenders and conventional juicers (centrifugal juicers), the low speed ensures that the juices are pressed gently and without heat. Slow juicer is a nutrient-preserving juicer with a particularly high juice yield.

Suitable for: powder/flour from nuts and seeds, nut butter, ice cream, sorbets, pesto, dips, Gourmet Raw Food dishes: e.g. energy balls or a base for raw cakes

Recommendations: Magimix, Cuisinart, KitchenAid, Gastroback (more and more good quality and affordable equipment can be found on the market).

A conventional food processor is often sufficient.

Dehydrator (food dryer)

Task: gentle drying of food preservation the enzymes—below 45°C.

Suitable for: drying fruits, vegetables, and activated nuts and seeds, softening vegetables, melting raw cacao butter and raw coconut oil and butter, making raw: bread, crackers, chips, fruit leathers, pancakes, biscuits, falafel, meatballs and much more.

Look for:

  • setting the temperature below 45°C
  • BPA free
